Signing around the campfire at Camp Cullasaja Group attending Camp Caswell For the first two years after its founding in May 1995, New Freedom held services at the Sandhills Baptist Association building outside Carthage, NC. In May 1997, New Freedom moved to its present location, the Edu-Care daycare building at 4212 Murdocksville Road, Pinehurst, NC.

Regular annual trips for youth and adults at New Freedom since its organization have included:

  • Youth Evangelism Week each summer at Camp Caswell on the North Carolina coast.
  • Super Summer Baptist Day at Carowinds amusement park near Charlotte.
  • Fall trips to Camp Cullasaja in the western NC mountains.
  • Fall trips to Camp Caswell for the women of the church.
New Freedom has also participated in Mission Trips to Brazil and been active in its support for Missions.

In 1997, The Biblical Recorder recognized New Freedom as 25th in the top 100 Baptist Churches in North Carolina in giving to Missions, with a very high percentage for a small church.

On Aug. 1, 1999, New Freedom voted in a new pastor, the Rev. Stephen Burrow of Southern Pines. Members voted unanimous approval of Burrow in a business meeting.

Since taking over as new pastor, Burrow has begun implementing the purpose-driven church, a church-building program originated by Rev. Rick Warren at Saddleback Community Church in Lake Forest, CA.

Rev. Gary GreeneBurrow replaces founding New Freedom pastor, the Rev. Gary Greene of Pinebluff, who served for the first four years of New Freedom's organization.

Greene and his family are now in Carrollton, Ga., where he is a Marriage and Family Therapy Counselor at the Carrollton Counseling Center, a ministry of the Georgia Baptist Health Care System.

Greene and his family moved from New Orleans, La., in May 2001, where he graduated from New Orleans Baptist Seminary with a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling.

Church conducting survey
New Freedom Baptist Mission is conducting a survey to determine what area residents desire in a church. New Freedom will consider the results of this survey in determining future ministry and growth areas. The survey can be completed online at the New Freedom Baptist website or the results may be mailed to the New Freedom pastor, Rev. Stephen Burrow, 284 Brooks Lane, Southern Pines, N.C. 28387, or call 901-692-6629.
"There are no right or wrong answers and it will only take about two minutes to complete this survey and Email or mail me your information. Thank you for your assistance," said Rev. Burrow.
