Photos and poem by John Myers

What price for the promise,
For the flash of the fish
Sliding through the dark water
As it's bent to your wish?

What price for the calm
Of the water's restored
When the fish's been caught
And you sit still once more?

What price for the rays
In the heat of the day
When old bones are warmed
And children run and play?

What price for an evening
And the setting of sun,
When tired bones can rest
And the day's work is done?

What price for the night
When all's quiet and still,
With only the shrill call
Of a lonesome Whip O' Will?

What price for the morn
When sleepers again arise,
To another day's dawning
To yet another sunrise?
