Sunrises and Sunsets, Near & Far

Photos and Text by John Myers, Internet Photojournalist

Sunrise at Bahrain Leaving home shores, here's two more sunrise/sunset beach shots from farther afield, two of the hundreds I took while traveling the world 25 years or more ago, courtesy of Uncle Sam's Navy.

First, here's a sunrise on Bahrain Island in the Persian Gulf, where I was stationed for a year aboard the USS Valcour (long since decommissioned) in 1970-71.

Early one morning I was shooting the sunrise in the harbour when this mushroom-like reflection of the sun on the water created this rather spooky yet beautiful effect, looking somewhat like those dreadful mushroom clouds of deadly explosions of the nuclear bomb photos.

(If this photo looks strangely familiar, it's the original version of the photo on my old home page design, before its colors were digitally altered with a filter in Photoshop from "normal" to black, green, blue, et c.)
