Sunrises and Sunsets, Near & Far

Leaving home shores, here's two more sunrise/sunset beach shots from farther afield, two of the hundreds I took while traveling the world 25 years or more ago, courtesy of Uncle Sam's Navy.

First, here's a sunrise on Bahrain Island in the Persian Gulf, where I was stationed for a year aboard the USS Valcour (long since decommissioned) in 1970-71.

Early one morning I was shooting the sunrise in the harbour when this mushroom-like reflection of the sun on the water created this rather spooky yet beautiful effect, looking somewhat like those dreadful mushroom clouds of deadly explosions of the nuclear bomb photos.
