A Photojournalist is first a photographer, able to create images like the photo at right, a summer sunrise I shot on Surfside Beach in South Carolina. Creating a pleasing image like this is the end result of knowing what happens when the shutter clicks on the camera, and how to capture the extraordinary from ordinary scenes of life.
A couple strolls down the beach at sunrise, as the warm rays of the morning light reflect off the wet sand left by a retreating tide. Capturing the golden rays of the sunrise and its reflected colors on the wet beach throws the couple into a dark outline, creating this pleasing scene.
It looks simple, but try shooting sunrises with an "automatic" camera. Only a skilled photographer knows how to capture this image.
